I was installing an M231 stock on my RR earlier.

I got the buffer tube on the lower, and went to put the buffer/spring in. The buffer tube is on tight.
Well I let the spring rest on the buffer detent nipple and the denent has coming out of the hole when pressure was applied to it, towards the front.

Do I need to just tight the buffer tube down a little more?

Post a pic, I am having trouble visualizing what you said.

I don't even run buffer detents anymore, they aren't even necessary and I've seen one break and lodge in a guy's FCG.

It sounds like you need to give the buffer tube one more revolution to securely hold the buffer detent in place.  Do that and get back to us.

I've seen pictures of someone with a similar problem, when he went the extra revolution, it hit the buffer retention pin and wouldn't let it come up, he fixed that with a file to open up the bottom portion of the buffer tube.
