Can anybody recommend a lpk brand.  Are they all the same or are some of them not worth buying?

I've used Stag, Essential Arms, M&A, and Rock River.   All four are good quality with no issues.

You are GTG with Stag, BM, Colt, RRA

Stay away from DPMS.  You might get a servicable one from them but their quality control sucks.

RRA is nice and goes in well.  Just keep in mind if you buy their match 2 stage trigger it comes with oversize pins.  I've assembled their two stage trigger with standard pins with no difficulties.

I have had no problems with RRA and Stag.

BS... Nothing wrong with the DPMS kits.   I have bought and installed a bunch of their lower kits and never had any issues at all.

FWIW, If you DID have an issue, their customer service dept would make it right...

I was going to take a pic, but its not worth it. I have yet to have a LPK from DPMS not break a part, or any of their bolt parts last.

Their springs also wear out in no time flat.

The lowers/upper and larger parts work okay, but their small parts suck

ETA I also have had really weird parts break from them, like the ejector hold back pin, ejectors, and ejector springs and the extractor pins. All with very little use.

I'll add their LPKs suck, I built a few and decided to try RRA. Then I watched an RRA bolt catch snap in half when it fell off of a coffee table onto a carpeted floor, plus the trigger sucked as bad as the factory Bushmaster I had years ago. Heavy with enough creep to start a carnival side show. I just put together a lower with a Stag LPK for a friend, and the pivot and take down pins are pieces of shit. You need to really hit them to break the detent free to move them, and the selector leaves a bit to be desired.

I didn't really realize how good I have it with my Colt and BCM guns.

so are all of these kits crap or are there any good ones?

everyone makes a lemon.  Everyone makes a champ.  Those who hate DPMS will always hate DPMS.  They are also the first to suggest RRA and probably CMMG and say they are so great.  Thing is only so many companies make lower parts and distribute them to majore brands.  I'd be interested in buying one of each and finding the differences in each kit.

Bushmaster's LPK's have never failed me.  No parts missing.  No parts failing to fit.  No parts crapping out once installed in the guns.

Doesn't mean it will always be that way, but that's my experience.

They also sell lots of "spare parts" packages, which I highly recommend.  Despite my best efforts, I've lost little bits and parts while working on guns, and it's nice having those spares in your toolbox, rather than waiting 2 weeks to order them.

My friends have had issues with other brands of kits, and have come to me to steal the parts that were out-of-spec, from my Bushmaster parts bin.

Granted, Bushmaster parts are tier 8 parts, but they work.

I have used Armalite, Anvil Arms, and Rock River, oh and I guess BM that came pre-installed in my gun.

I've been really pleased with my JT/Doublestar LPK.  I was surprised that the trigger feels as good as it does.

my RRA LPK went in perfectly and has held up nicely for several hundred rounds so far. not a ton of use but still. the trigger also feels pretty much the same as my friends stag, and S&W. i wouldn't call it shitty.
But i agree that everyone will make lemons, especially on small parts that LPKs, but if you stick with a good name brand and you do get a back kit, they will make it right for you. so don't sweat it to much.

this, i believe that J&T/Double Star make the best "kit" LPK, i have had very good luck and always had very good triggers, i have become a Stag/CMT LPK fanboy, and rock river has been very good also. i've used other companies for friends and found that other LPK's are just so so, i put together 2 M&A kits back to back for 2 guys at work, both LPK's were trash, i used extra J&T LPK parts to finish both rifles, other that have been less than desirable have been model1, Crapthorne, DPMS(because of missing parts), this is only my opinion and what i've seen. i hope this helps

I have a DPMS lower with a trigger that is real gritty feeling.  Works fine for hunting, but difficult to shoot well with.  I recently put a CMMG kit in a CMMG lower, and it feels significantly better.  One of the takedown detents was damaged or defective, though.  I had to loosen the stock to get it to release, and had to re-shape the tip a bit to make it work at all.  I originally thought the spring was too long, but it was the pin.  Thank God it wasn't in the front - I don't know how I would have gotten it out.

This. I used a Doublestar LPK for my 20" build and its very nice. There is a dealer in the EE, DD Ranch I think, that has them in stock for $55.
