I am brand new to AR15s, and just got my first stripped lower and LPK. I am building an AR15 from there. I just bought a used A2 mil spec Armalite buttstock on another board, and want to match the finish and color in a hand guard. It is a gray finish. Any suggestions on where to go? Anyone here have one to sell? Info much appriciated- Thanks! http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh142/tadnlisa/AR15buttstock.jpg

I don't think you're going to find handguards in that grey color.  Get some standard black handguards then wipe the stock down with CLP.  The CLP will turn the stock black.

All A2 stocks are gray.  CLP will darken it.  I wipe clp on the anodized upper and lower too even though they dont need it.

Thanks guys, thats what I will do then. If the match isn't satisfactory, can I dura coat it later or will the clp cause the dura coat not to stick?

You could use brake cleaner to take off any lube on the stock.  It may discolor the stock though.

A2 stocks all have that gray color when new.
With use they darken to flat black color.

My pre-ban Colt Sporter AR-15 model R6551 has a gray A2 butt stock and handguards. So I would think you can find a used set of handguards of the same color.

I did this this at advice from another member (Quib) and it turned out perfectly.  I put shoe polish on the stock and buffed it verystrongly and it looks perfect.  Almost to perfect, give it a try.  You will be very suprised.

You could also not be so OCD and just use it as a weapon and not worry about the stock.
