I need information on how to tell if a complete upper is a Colt.  I have an upper and it has a different forward assist button than my RRA (it is almost oval shaped instead of round like the RRA).  The barrel has what looks like "E  MP 5.56 NATO 1/7" stamped on top.  Also, Is there any way to tell if the BCG is Colt or not??

It is a 20" A3.  The markings on the Picatinny rail are not paint filled...It was sold to me as a "Colt" but I wanted a 20" so if its not; not an issue with me....I am jus trying to identify who made it..

E MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 marked barrel is made by Emco; its a USGI contractor for replacement parts IIRC... a Colt barrel would have a "C" instead of the "E".
Colt usually mark its stuff (barrel, receiver, bolt & bolt carrier) with a "C"

Not to start a problem, but weren't the Emco barrels all pulled out of servoce, and the contract cancelled becouse of a high rate of defects?

If I recall correctly, existing stocks were peddled off on govt disposal sales and some have ended up on civie ARs.. If memory serves, the major problem was crudely reamed chambers, causing many failures to eject; so if that doesn't occur w/your piece, you're good to go. If it does, I guess you'll know soon enough.

Not a real test but I just put a light down the chamber of this barrel and also looked down the chamber of a new RRA.  I cannot see any difference in the smoothness of the chambers...both are chrome lined; I can only clearly see the last 30-40 percent so there may be a problem I cannot see..

But, thanks for the heads-up...if it happens I will have an idea of why...
