Hello, I am new to this board and know a lot less about these rifles than ya'll do so I have a few questions. Right now my upper receiver is the A-2 model with the carry handle and I was looking to replace it with a flattop A3? model so I could mount my new scope there. Basically I wanted to ask if there is a specific brand of upper I should be looking at, and also if there are places I can sell my A2 upper that I am planning on removing. I do not shoot near as much as it seems most ya'll do, I really only use my rifle when I get a chance to go to buddies' ranches and do some spotlighting or varmit hunting. Because of this I do not have one of these badass expensive AR's like most ya'll, the lower is Olympic Arms. I don't know if that means the upper is necessarily olympic arms as well or what, I can't figure out how to find out.
On kinda the same topic, I have taken off the fixed A2 buttstock, and the factory hand guards...are there places I could sell those along with the A2 upper? How much could I get for these items approximately? Any information is appreciated, i've never been on a forum and had people that I could ask these questions so hopefully I can get some help. Thanks again |
| I sold my upper on the Equipment Exchange. You could sell the stocks there too. As far as A3 uppers, If your barrel doesn't have M4 extensions, then get an upper without M4 cuts. Do a search on the M4 cuts.. As far as I know, you can take your pic of what manufacturer you want for the upper.. Others will probably chime in.. |
| I'm not sure if A3 is the right terminology as to what upper I need... I am just looking for one without the carry handle that has the rails on top so I can mount the scope and the flip up rear site. How would I know if my barrel has M4 cuts (sorry if thats a dumb question) Does it help to know that my rifle came stock as an AR-15 (A2 model) with 20 inch barrel |

The upper you're talking about is called A3 or "flattop". As far as the feed ramps on your barrel, here's a post that shown the difference between standard & M4 feed ramps..
