I have a general, conceptual question about silencers on ARs (5.56)... what does it sound like when one is used and how much "noise" is still heard?  I'm certain make/model of the silencer makes a difference, too...but generally what would you say?

Thanks for the feedback.

Good question for the Suppressors section of the Armory tab. Be sure to read the faq's.

with a can and regular ammo a little quieter than a 22lr w/o can, they are not just a pffffttt  as hollyweird makes it out

+1. The M4-1000 that I use on my 10 & 11" barrels sounds like this & I can comfortably shoot without ear pro. I still choose wear plugs anyway.

In general it is like shooting a 22 mag. Unless you go to oddball subsonic loads you will always have the ballistic crack of the supersonic round.

Ditto. I use a .308 can on mine and can comfortably shoot without ear protection out doors.

A loud quick hiss (like a pneumatic nail gun or similar) and a super sonic crack (like a bullwhip).  Or like a .22lr from a 16" long barrel (way quieter than .22lr from a pistol).

Youtube vids are actually good representations about 2/3 of the time.
