So I bought a used AR in the fall of '08 at a gun show (pretty well-known dealer told me the previous owner shot a couple boxes through it but had to sell it because of a divorce). The lower receiver is stamped RRA for an LAR-15. I recently found out the stock is not RRA and it made me wonder so I decided to check the barrel (16") and to confirm my doubts I can't find any markings whatsoever. Not on the barrel near the receiver where RRA stamps them, not anywhere. It shoots very well, both .223 and 5.56. I emailed someone from RRA and he told me my serial number on the receiver left the factory as a stripped lower in '04, however when I bought the gun in '08 I gave it a really good once-over and it looked like it hadn't even been used, even inside the chamber and magazine slot there were no signs of use.
Now I'm just wondering who made the rest of the gun? I don't know which companies don't mark their barrels. I do know the upper receiver was forged by Cerro with the keyhole marking (which isn't helpful, I know) and the barrel appears to be chrome lined. There is a marking on the front sight but I forgot to write that down, I'll update later. Any help/ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks all and Happy St. Patty's! -B |
