having a very hard time on which rail setup to go with.
first let me tell a litt.ebit about the rifle and uses. the rifle is a CMMG M10 Medcon. just typical A3 carbine length with plain 16" barrel no notch. just will be my go to AR15 i plan to use no others. for optics i have a TA31F on the way which i will mount in a ADM mount. the only acc's i plan to mount on the rifle is a vickers sling (which i will mount on the forend with a MI mount) and a TD stubby grip. i use the stubby because i shoot with two fingers on the grip and two on the handguard. i want a rail so i have the option to mount some stuff on it (possibly a light too) and i want the free float for the accuracy. i just cant decide on length. i can keep it at 7.0 and keep the factory FSB, and this will certainly do. but i MAY want the option to mount a bipod aswell, and this simply wouldnt be possible with a 7" rail the way i place my left hand. and im thinking even a 9" may not be enough to place a bipod but it would be both. the 12" is definently long enough but at this point i think its just too big and bulky for a go to rifle. just that much morerails to possible ding up. thoughts? |

my suggestion is going with the low pro gas block and getting a longer rail. larue has 10" and 11" rails troy and MI have 10" rails DD and YHM only have 9" and 12" this would be the easiest way instead of getting a 7" rail being happy with your new rail until you want to mount a bipod taking all your 7" rail selling your 7" rail buying a new longer rail and low pro gas block installing new rail mount bipod wish you had bought the longer rail in the 1st place ![]() |

yes ive considered and had VTAC forends but i want a true quad rail on this rifle so i doubt have to buy a new little rail every time i want to mount something and move rails around.
as for brand im staying with DD, ive never used many troy products, dont want a MI, and im not giving larue any more of my money. i dont even know ill ever mount a bipod i am pretty steady in prone resting off the mag so it would most likely suffice. only real reason for a bipod is i use my AR's for short range (under 300 yards) groundhog killers and a bipod is nice sometimes, but other times just gets in the way. the less crap hanging off my guns the better im not one of those really tacticool guys that like to be able to use their irons, magnified optic, and reddot all at the same time. i like a simple setup that works, so i also dont like more rail going down the barrel than i need... but at the same time, jsut how much will i need? lol. also cant decide on a grip for the rifle. my favorite grips are the MIAD and hogue, both fit my hand well. EDITED TO ADD: just a FYI DD does have 10" rails too, not just 7,9,12 |

That is certainly understandable. I am going for a LaRue rail, but on my wifes I am going to use the vtac, I can't imagine her ever needing more than a front sight and VFG. |

i stand corrected. i must have skipped right over the 10" DD rail on their website. your choice on rails is pretty obvious then. unless you really want to keep the fsb, i say get the longer rail i dont mind keeping the FSB or not, thats not the problem. i have no problem getting a vltor block, and a troy flip up front sight. i just want to have enough rail but not too much |
