[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Cannot I.D. Barrel -- No Markings/Help?

Just acquired a used "pre-ban" AR15 (A2 type) w/ .223/5.56 DPMS lower receiver. Cannot identify maker of upper. Absolutely no markings on barrel (examined with magnifying glass with hand guards removed). Desire to confirm chambering (e.g. pure .223 vs. 5.56mm). In absence of markings can a good gunsmith examine/measure chamber to determine exact caliber? Thanks from a 'newbie'.

Yep, take it to a smith in your area that deals with AR's or one that can cast the chamber. I'll bet a dollar and a donut that it is a 1/9 NonCL.

Yes, the prior owner said the twist was 1/9. I'm new to this website; what does "nonCL" refer to in your reply? Thanks, Vet1964
