I'm new to AR's, in the process of building my first. I already got the lower squared away and now I'm working on an upper.

I know a guy who is willing to sell me a 20" upper he got years ago from Rock River (sans BCH and charging handle) and first of all, I'm curious of a fair price.

Also I'm a bit confused on the ins-and-outs of putting a new BCG in with a used barrel. (It's only been through about 200-300 rds) Haven't check the barrel markings yet, no handguard removal tool at my disposal and my right hand has a slight injury so I don't want to try aggrevating it trying to do it by hand.

Things like wear, headspacing, etc. Will everything be fine and the like?

Should be "plug and play" w/ a new BCG & CH.  You could always get a set of go/no-go gauges for about $40 just to make sure.

300 rounds is nothing, not even broken in yet.

$250-300 is all I would pay, the BCG + CH is going to run $150+ if you can find one. Looks like a standard 20" 1/9 twist chrome lined bbl in "post-ban" configuration (no flash hider or bayo lug). These could be added for about $100.

FB

ETA: It could be Chrome-Moly and not chrome lined. If so -$50.

Thanks for the heads up.

Already ordered a charging handle. Trying to find a BCG in stock anywhere is a real pain.

Any idea if ordering from LMT or Young Mfg direct would take any sooner than waiting for BCG's in-stock elsewhere?

No, he just won't sell them any more.

If you order direct from Young's, they say @ worst it would only be a 2-3 wk wait.

A Note on Availability: We have been getting numerous calls on whether items are "in stock". As the manufacturer, our carriers are always available but due to extremely high demand, you may have a short wait while we complete the production of your carrier. Usually, in the worst case, say we just started a run of NM AR-15s today, we will be able to ship in 2 to 3 weeks. Considering wait times throughout the industry are 3-6 months for many key items, we aren't doing too bad, worst case. That said, we thank you for your patience and patronage! Keep an eye on your email for notification of shipping.

Talked to Steve Bell @ the Portland gunshow yesterday and he had several bcgs.  Steve is a source for Young products and can be contacted @ New River Arms.
