does anyone know if it would be better to get a bushmaster or stag with a factory rail system or - i was looking at surefire.  would it be better to upgrade to aftermarket?  If so what brand?

the rails that come from the "factory" are aftermarket.  they just put them on for you.

you have to supply more info in what you are looking for in your rail for anyone to tell you objectively what to get.

do you want:
drop-in two piece non free float (FF)
drop-in two piece FF
one piece FF

do you want to drink kool-aid or buy a rail that suits your needs and budget?

I want something that will give me the most stability and the least amount of moving parts - so a 1pc rail.

then you have

daniel defense
yankee hill machine
larue
KAC

all make quality products.  some are lighter/thinner than others.  and some are more $$ than other
there are tons of threads on all of them
decide what meets your needs/price point

Troy Ind makes nice rails as well.  Drop-in and free float.
