I've got a couple of Stag 6.8 stripped lowers that I was planning on selling and someone asked me a question about them that I was unsure about.

Since these are just stripped lowers, would you have to build a rifle that was a 6.8 or could you use these with a 5.56/.223 upper and barrel?

They are regular AR-15 lowers. You don't have to build a 6.8 just because that's how it is marked.

You can build any AR caliber on that lower. That being said, there may be some 6.8 fans that would like those lowers. Some people like their lowers marked with the same caliber they build.

That's what I was thinking but wanted to make sure.

I know very little about 6.8's.

The only difference I could possibly think of was a difference in magazine wells but did not have a 6.8 mag to try.

I appreciate everyone's help.

Everything on that lower is the same with the exception of the writing 6.8 instead of 5.56. As far as the magazines, yes the external is the same and companies make magazines specifically for the 6.8.

I have a 5.56 lower.  I marked the 6 with paint to let me know it's a 6.8spc.

(that is before I lost it in a boating accident)
