I have a bushmaster ORC with no fixed sights(I am going to get folding back up iron sights)....anyway.... I am looking at the MI 2 piece free float 10" quad rail system. 2 questions.....will it fit my AR, I am trying to cover up the place where the normal fixed front sight usually is? and......2. Is the quad rail system the Picatinny?? I have looked everywhere and no information tells me––-I am assuming it is the Picatinny––––-SORRY for the ingorance in the AR world–––– This is my first AR––Im a NOOB!  Thanks for any help............

You could install a 9" DD Omega Rail. The MI rail requires that you cut your delta ring off. The DD rail doesn't require any modifications to your upper.

I have the MI 10" and it will fit over the v-match gas block you have.  You'll have to cut off the delta ring assembly or remove the barrel to remove the deltra ring assembly prior to installation.

I don't know about other railed forends and their inner diameters.  The MI barely fits though and only because it has grooves in the upper/lower halves that accomodate the bayonet lug and gas block portion of the piece.

Neither is better.  The two piece is an easier install since you dont have to pull the FSB.  The two piece is usually heavier.

The DD OMEGA IS THE SHIZ.

Prior to doing this you should find someone else that has done it.  The v-match gas block is a milled down version of the standad FSB and is larger than the average low profile gas block - especially on the lower half because the v-match gas block still has the sling loop and bayonet lug.  You'll have to ensure that the v-match block will fit within the DD rail system.  I'd hate to see you have to jump through hoops to return something that doesn't work for your system.

I just bought the new Bushmaster ORC myself last night. (830 nib)

I am looking to do something similar in order to improve accuracy and allow me to add some goodies.  I just ordered the M4-1000 Advanced Armament silencer and between that, my optics and light, I anticipate a heavy front end and a need for a forward grip.

Most of the quad rail systems I have seen are Picatinny.  Whichever way you go, it looks like you might want to consider getting some Magpul rail panels or rail protectors, as those picatinny rails can be brutal on the hands (without gloves of course).  Of course I am a NOOB too, of less than 24 hours now, so run this by the experts on this site first.

As a very new NOOB, I need help on this as well.  I like the 9" DD Omega Rail, I checked it out on the site, but at $289 it's getting up a little higher than I can afford right now.  Very impressive detachable lower rail, oval, light (under 10 ounces), 6061-T6 AL made to military specs and comes with 3 rail ladders.

More in my prices range I found the 7", 4 picatinny rail one piece free floating tube on the DPMS site for $121.92 DPMS FF-4R.  It's made of the same aluminum.  I plan on having a forward grip, light and fold up site, so I will only need to buy 2 of those Magpul rail ladder/protectors.  So at $144 (122 for floating tube and 22 for rail ladders), what is that major difference here?  I could take that $145 in savings and get some more ammo, or is the extra amount justifyable?  I know it depends on how you will use it, but I would expect to put about 3 to 5 thousand rounds through mine per year, so if there is a good reason I would appreciate the info from you veterans out there.

Part of the difference is length.  A 7" forearm will stop just behind your gas block, leaving it exposed as it is already.  A 9" forearm will cover the gas block - assuming the rail will fit over the gas block.

It really depends on what you want.

What about the YHM-9479 for $119 combined with YHM-9484B for $18.95.  9479 seems to be a descent 4 rail hand guard that would fit our Bushy ORC and still allow us to keep the bayonet lug.  The 9484B would cover the end as you point out protecting the end and keeping debris out, yet allowing free floating.

Has anyone used these on an ORC?  Any issues or regrets?
