| I'm about to start my first AR project and was looking for some advice on what would be a good kit to cut my teeth on. I thought about buying a complete rifle but I would take it apart as soon as I got it so I thought I might as well just build my own. I hear a lot of good things about the Stag stripped lowers for the price and the DPMS parts kit. I was mostly concerned with the fitment when buying uppers and lowers not made by the same manufaturer. From what I hear there aren't a lot of issues but since this is my first build I don't want to run into some problems $700 or so into the project. Any advice on what to buy and where to buy from would be greatly appreciated. I would like to keep it around $7-800 if possible. Im willing to pay for quality so let me know what you all recommend. |

So, you're not talking about an 80% lower, just building up a stripped lower? It's a lot cheaper to just buy what you want. Then, as you say, take it apart and learn how it works, then you can start buying different components and building up different configurations. If you're doing an 80% build, there are things to know. |
| Welcome to the boards! Most any lower from any dealer in the EE(Equipment Exchange) is fine. The Stag lowers are great.I've owned one.Shop around if price is an issue.I've used several Dpms lower parts kits with no problems. You shouldn't have problems with fit of uppers and lowers. If you did,it would probably be minor. |
| The only thing i plan actually putting together is the lower reciever and plan on buying a complete upper. I like to know how things work so I figured this would be a good way to figure it out. Thanks for the replies. What kind of complete uppers do you recommend? |
