| I am working with a smaller dealer who sells online. I have purchased some lowers from him and some other parts ;seems like a good guy to deal with. I am looking at buying a LMT barreled upper. I asked if the upper reciever is LMT marked and he said that they are sanitized, no markings because that is the way people usually want them. Also how are the LMT bolt carriers marked. I don't have any reason to doubt his word but I am not experienced and thought maybe someone could help me out. Thanks |
| LMT uppers are laser etch marked with "LMT" on the upper left side (side without ejection port cover) & some have forge marks on the right side & some don't. My receiver is from Cardinal Forge with the stylized cardinal head (looks like a pellet with a canted head). LMT uppers also come stripped, meaning they do not come with handguards, bolt group & charging handle. A few of dealers have sold these uppers with extra option parts of their choosing or they sell them complete as a higher priced option. Mine was delivered with handguards & a charging handle at no charge as purchased from Rainier Arms. I've only seen Cold War Shooters sell a complete LMT uppers but there may be more that do this as an option that I have no experience with. I can't be certain what the guy was meaning when he said "sanitized" unless it was in reference to the fact that LMT come standard without the items I mentioned above. |
| I am looking a buying an upper from him. He says it is all LMT. I asked if the upper reciever has the LMT etching on the left hand side and he said no they are not marked. He said people like them that way/he gets them like that so when people put them on different lowers they don't have conflicting markings on the gun. |
I have never heard of this. Are there really enough people going to this one dealer to encourage him to obtain unmarked uppers from a major player in the AR & mil contract business? Folks who have a LMT upper with, say a CMMG lower, really care that they are not "marked" by the same company? That's no difference than having a CMMG lower with an unmarked Colt upper or one from any other company. Just curious as the etching can be easily covered up with a Sharpie. Ask him if the unmarked uppers are coming, complete, from LMT this way? Or, is the distributor and/or this particular dealer changing them out themselves for specific customers that do not want the etching on the receiver at their request? Every LMT upper I have ever seen has the etching. Not sure about the MK18 receivers though. |
I am really suspicious of this. If it is all LMT it is older production. All LMT uppers I have seen for a while are marked |
|
all LMT uppers have been etched "LMT" since about 2004-they don't sell stripped uppers anymore due to some dealers putting other parts/barrels on them and selling them as LMT uppers. All uppers also have T numbers on the upper receiver and M4 feed ramps. The barrels are 1/7 and marked that way. This guy sounds supsect, buy from someone else who. |
| I started out looking for a RRA midlength A4. He said he could build up the same thing using LMT parts for less. The barrel was the same made from Wilson blank and the upper and BCG were LMT. $475 in chrome lined heavy barrel midlength handguards. Actually now I might just go with a RRA if this doesn't work out. He said RRA used LMT parts and you pay more for the RRA name. |
![]() I think it's time to find a new dealer, IMO. |
If you are confusing CMT with LMT then your dealer might be telling you something close to the truth. LM&T does not sell what you are describing. If someone is trying to sell you a LMT upper with a Wilson Heavy Barrel they are trying to rip you off. |
Yes. Please do a little more research before you buy & stay away from this particular dealer disseminating suspicious intel. |
| Well.....this is part of the research process. I'm looking for a midlength gas system 16" barrel. I think RRA might be the best fit. Nobody has anything in stock and can't say when they will get it in. I will call this guy and ask him to look at this thread and listen to his response. He did make clear LMT....not CMT. Thanks again for all the help with this. |
1. Your dealer will just tell you to not listen to anything on the internet. We aren't going to change his mind, especially when he is going to make a sale with false information. If he is saying that RRA is LMT, than he is either lying, or knows nothing. Either way, time for a new dealer. 2. Other options include: Bravo Company, Sabre Defense, CMMG. 3. Bravo Company is making more 16" middys right now, and you can get on an email list to get one. Trust me, it will be worth it. Otherwise, a quick search shows both Sabres and CMMG in stock. Personally, I would get the Bravo (and did). |
| The dealer directed me to this site....M +A parts..... he said to read the info section on first page. M+A says they have LMT uppers also and the are not marked. He said he would not describe himself as a small dealer.......more midsized and mostly doing work with LE angencies. |
|
M&A is another animal - good stuff for a hobby gun, but they're nowhere near LMT for a quality, hard use upper receiver. M&A would be a fantastic range gun, and they're priced right for that. I'd start ignoring that dealer, period. ::ETA:: Just get an LMT, BCM, Sabre, RRA, CMMG, GTS and be done with that dealer. |
LMT makes tons of parts for many different companies. Just how CMT makes parts for many different companies. LMT marks the parts they make and back with their quality control. I see what the dealer is saying now, and he is telling the truth. ETA: I am trying to think of an analogy to cover what I am talking about. It is a common practice in this industry and I guess you could say that LMT made the upper, but it is not "LMT" they are made for another company to mark themselves or sell under their own brand. |
Don't walk, run from this nut. Having read this thread and what he's telling you, he's trying to take you. You're doing the right thing researching. You can find REAL LMT Uppers all over the internet with LMT markings. You can find real factory RRA midlengths too, if that's what you want. This guy sounds suspicious, stay far away. I've dealt with several dealers that deal mostly with LE, like this guy. Just because they seem straight does not make it so when dealing with YOU, mister non-LE civilian. To many red flags for me, I'd do more research and order from Bravo Company, PK Firearms, or one of the other dealers here that have great reps. |
Same experience for me, BTW, I still have a set of twin with the RAS2, one is LMT the other is a Colt. I also have two '04 RECCEs from MSTN with no LMT etchings. |
are you reffering to quantico arms? if so there website says they are full price, let me know, thanks. KP |
Typical dealer.....never, ever, ever, ever, buy from M&A Parts. PK Firearms Now here is a company that will tell you the truth and treat you right! |
