Based on your recommendations, here's what I'm getting:

Sabre Defence M5 (mid-length) Flat-Top w/ flip-up sights F/R
16" Chrome-lined 1x9 barrel (agency issues 55gr TAP)
Comes with ergo grip, fine for now
EoTech 512
Daniel Defense Omega 9 rail
Surefire 6P LED with strike bezel
Daniel Defense offset flashlight mount
Vickers Combat Applications sling
Composite foregrip

Still deciding on ambi-selector, anyone else shoot left-handed???  Also, would you guys recommend one of those cool looking phantom suppressors?  I just like the way they look but are there any advantages/disadvantages?  The setup above will run me about $1700.  That's a pretty good setup for the price, right?

If you are going with a folding front and rear sight, have you thought about getting a longer rail? A rail that covers your gas block might be a good thing if the block isn't pinned in place.

As far as the light, I've hit people with both flashlights and carbines.  You don't need a "strike" bezel to do it. If it doesn't change the price, and you like it, thats one thing, but I wouldn't pay anything extra for it.  Just my take on it.  I've got no need to lay someone open. Blood born pathogens are pretty ugly, and common on the people we deal with.

A rail like on the M5 Tactical on this page?

http://www.sabredefence.com/commercial.php

BTW, what do you think of that for a patrol rifle?  It has the shorter barrel, still chrome lined, the EoTech 552, the longer rail and a slightly upgraded stock.  Before you decide what kind of deal that is, what if I could get one brand new for $1800?  With a light, sling, and foregrip I'd be at about $2000.  So the question is, would this setup be worth the extra $300+?

Wise words.

Ambi safety - Lefty = Yes.  Righty= maybe I run an ambi and I like it, but you can feel it under your right hand with selector on fire.  It doesn't bother me and I use it on the left side shooting.

A2 flashhider works OK and is shorter/lighter.  Phanton looks cool and works slightly better but hard to tell dif..   Vortex works best, but more money.
Enjoy

From everything I've read here, including Stickman's post in the earlier version of this post, the AAC Blackout is the best, with the Vortex a close second.

If you don't already, set up a LEO account with Brownells.  The Vortex is 43.95 and the Blackout is 49.95.  I have both, but haven't been able to shoot the guns at night yet.

I'm a lefty and have an ambi selector and love it as well.  I thought about a left hand only selector after it being mentioned in the earlier post but after manipulating my ambi I found that I engage the selector with my thumb and then disengage it on the opposite side with my index finger - it feels faster and more comfortable that way, for me anyway.

On a 16" you're not going to notice much of a difference.  The only downside is a lighter wallet, but the 5C1/5C2/Phantom only runs about $24.

Great advice.  I have saved a ton over the years there.

Rainier also gives a LEO discount.

There is nothing glamorous about wondering if you picked up HIV/ HEP, and too many guys over look that.  Our line of work is bad enough, but it gets worse when you are looking at bringing something home to your family.

Been there, done that, haven't enjoyed it.

Is there a reason you are limiting your search to Sabre models?  I know department policy can be restrictive on some things, but it may be worth your time to check out other manufacturers as well.

*** Novekse would be my #1 off the shelf choice.

LMT would be my next choice for an off the shelf weapon.

Colt would be a good choice as well, if you can avoid getting gouged and were able to find one.

I'm getting a heck of a discount.  They just landed the military contract to produce M-16's, so I figure they know what they're doing.  I'm no expert though.  Any thoughts at all on the M5 Tactical?  In the meantime I'll look at the others, I'm just not sure I can afford those.  I would be getting the M5 Tactical for $1800.

Noveske N4 w/ a rail and flip-ups is $1900 w/ no optic.  Do you know how much the LE discount is?

Call Sheri, she will answer your questions and isn't about to pressure you to buy anything.  The MIL and LE pricing that they do isn't something that gets listed on boards.

To answer your question, I don't recall the exact numbers, but I checked on N4 basic prices for a couple officers last week.  The guys who shoot with me plan on adding a DD Omega rail and keeping the FSB, so they weren't interested in the extended rail variant.
