Looking to do a KISS style carbine on a Cavalry Arms lower. In addition to simple, lightweight is what I am looking for.

Here is what I have found for options in a 16" 7.62x39 barrel...

DPMS      Heavy & Non-Chromed

Olympic   Heavy & Non-Chromed

Model 1    Heavy & Non-Chromed

Sabre       Standard & Chromed & Expensive

The lack of chrome is not a deal breaker, but the heavy barrel kind of defeats the purpose of a lightweight build.
Does anyone know of any other options I might be missing?

ArmaLite

but I think they only offer it as a complete carbine

I'm in pretty much the same boat with looking at a relatively lightweight 7.62x39 build. Sabre comes the closest, but they're priced around 3X what the others are, and they're still not quite what I want.

Since I've already got an M1S 7.62x39 rifle that is quite accurate, I've been considering just getting one of their ER Shaw barrels and sending it to ADCO to be recontoured, cut to 14.5" and have a permanent FH installed. I think that'd still come out significantly cheaper than getting a Sabre barrel and, as I say, the M1S I've got now has a quite good 7.62x39 barrel.

I think Del-ton had a 7.62 set up if I am not mistaken.  RG

I didn't weight my Del-Ton barrel before screwing it all together - but it is SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than the 16" Colt 7.62x39 Sporter barrel that was laying on the workbench at the same time.

Between the Model 1 Sales version (ER Shaw barrel) and the DTI version (Wilson Arms barrel), which would you prefer?  I would like to have an upper in 762x39 (despite the AK's in the same caliber I have sitting around) just for sh1ts and giggle.

I know the Model 1 is very popular, but I have not read that much about hte DTI 762x39...
