I'm getting ready to purchase an LMT upper in the 14.5" config. You absolutely cannot go wrong with LMT. I think(based on the info from this site)that LMT is a top-tier manufacterer. I think they spend a little more time in the little things, unlike Bushmaster,DPMS,and others. Plus, you can get the upper in almost any config you want(with 1/7 twist rates)! |
Sounds like a nice setup you have working there... LMT uses the best material and has some of the best looking gear out there. |

I've got both 16" LMT and Colt 6721 carbines, LMT is probably the closest to Colt with the most desirable Mil-spec features. There are only a few items which are not that important to me anyway, that are different with LMT, it doesn't have tapered pins at the FSB, the barrel are not finished under the FSB, the handguards are not the double layer heatshields, and it don't have a H buffer. The upper to lower fit of my LMT is average, tighter than my Colts and slightly looser than my RRA, I like it's fit compared to my other ARs. My opinion on the LMT enhanced BCG is "I'll pass", a lot of members used them but with mixed results, I decided to just go with the proven LMT M16 BCG and I have no problems with it for three years now (approx. 1,500 rounds). You could save the extra money for your ACOG. I've got the KAC M4 RAS on my LMT and would recommend it over the RIS model, the RAS model have a locking bracket that locks to the barrel nut to prevent the rails from moving even when worn out. You have to check the Equipment Exchange often, they sometimes shows up there at very good low prices. The only reliability upgrades that I did was I used BCM (Bravo Company) bolt extractor upgrade kit and LMT H buffer. I'm very satisfied with my LMT and I won't hesitate getting another one for my next project. Ref: LMT Enhanced Carrier? - thread link |
| Since your a LEO, give Pete at Legal Transfers Here a call. He has great prices on factory complete carbine with rear sight and his prices include shipping! Just got mine from him this week. |
Edited: forgot punctuation!

Take a look at BCM uppers It's a bit cheaper than an LMT upper, and it's really nice. |

I ordered my LMT 16" upper monday from G&R Tactical.Should have it in a couple days and will post my findings. I decided against the Enhanced BCG and went with the standard assembly.Mainly I based my decision on the overall price of the enhanced BCG and the feedback from more experienced folks than myself. Most everyone Ive asked said to save your money. From what Ive read you cant find a better upper unless you go with a BCM.. |
Aye, Paul at BCM has really worked to make his uppers the best hard use upper available. Some of the ways it is better are a bit esoteric, but I am glad he works to push the market towards the best possible weapon for the $$. |

Yeah from what Ive read BCM and LMT are the top of the list as far as quality, performance and customer service.Ive been reading about LMT for a long time and have wanted one badly,so I went that direction. I have not bought a new AR since 2000, so Im due for an upgrade. Yall are a bad influence too. After reading this thread I was thinking about what I was going to do with the extra upper Im going to have laying around when the LMT gets here. So I decided to go ahead and order the LMT Defender lower from G&R to put the LMT upper on.That way I will have a complete LMT,rather than mix up my Armalite.Should have just ordered the assembled LMT rifle in the first place...nah its more fun this way. More is better I guess,at least Im not wasting an upper. |

I'm not going recommend one company over another but I will say that I've seen LMT have problems, just as I have with other companies. My experience is limited to about 4 years, and about 10,000 rounds. I'm also an LEO and my previous bushmaster never failed me. In the first class I ever took I saw to Colts have feeding issues. One of which failed to extract the round before cycling causing the bolt to lock up and a huge pain. The guy was slamming his rifle on the ground while pulling the chargin handle for quite a while before the round was freed. Our agency just purchased several LMT's for our SWAT guys and one of them has a feeding issue just about every other round. The rest of the guns are fine though. I'm sure they'll send it back and LMT will fix it. My current gun has a Cerro upper w/m4 cuts, a cmmg 11.5" lightweight barrel, mi 10" free float handguards, a smith vortex flash suppressor, bushmaster bcg/ch (from my old gun), bushmaster lower, h2 buffer, and magpul stock. The gun runs like a champ. I pieced it together myself and feel like I did myself a great service by building the gun to my personal preference. I also saved a ton of money. |

Ive neber owned a Bushy so I cant comment on that.I will say Ive been a hardcore Armalite man for many many years.Yeah I had a few problems with my Armalites such as carrier keys coming loose and other issues mostly due to the older .223 Rem chambers that were rather tight IMHO.Otherwise Ive had few problems with my Armalites. My choice to go with a LMT this time was due in fact to the reputation, detail and the quality components used in the uppers.Im not knocking Armalite at all, like I said Ive had exceptional service from them and has been my favorite rifle line for many years. But I wanted a documented rifle as close to what a true Mil-spec as I could get and the LMT fit the bill in barrel configuration,BCG,FSB and all the related testing such as MPI and HPT associated with all the parts. The fact that LMT does some extensive R&D,test firing and proofing means alot to me.Not all manufacturers can or will provide proofs to the claims. Yeah any weapon can have issues....its man made so there is going to be a failure from time to time.Having the features, proper assembly and right parts from the start eliminates alot of the problems some folks see regularly. So thats why I chose LMT.If I had not gone that route it would have been a BCM without question. |

| I actually worked there as a college student doing odds and ends in the shop (drill press front sights or blasting uppers or lower batches....OLD location in the little blue building. The second summer there, I helped them move locations to this nice new industrial complex building..... you find the nastiest things in the bottom of a CNC!!! ABSOLUTE sticklers on quality control, but I cant tell you how many times I found bluing on the underneath of my lathe handles..... sigh..... GREAT bunch of guys to work with lol! Worked another summer home at this other place down the street (Houge tool and plastic) doing temp plastic injection molding.... funny, but it turns out they were M203 hand grips going to LMT. They offered me a rifle for $900 out of my paychecks back in '93 or '94.... I was like, what would I need a rifle for LOL! |
