What is the difference between Chrome lined and chrome molly and how can I tell which is which?
Is one better than the other?

Chrome moly is a type of steel mixture that is made into barrels that may or may not be chrome lined later.  Usually if the seller is making it known that the barrel is chrome moly then it is to confuse the buyer into thinking the bore is chrome plated.

Chrome lined means that a barrel has the bore and chamber plated with industrial chrome to extend the life of the barrel and it makes it easier to clean and resist rust.  The military uses chrome lined bores on all weapons from the M9 pistol to the Mk19.

For most GP applications with ARs, you want a chrome plated (lined) barrel.

Any help?

Yep, thanks. What is the general life span of non-chromed barrels?

Impssible to say, because it depwnds on too many outside factors. Like grade of steel used type of ammo used, rate of fire of the user, etc.

What you can count on is that a chrome lined barrel will significantly out last an unchromed piece, when the two are used  in the same way.

Me? I won't do busines with an outfit that advertises "chrome moly" barrels They're trying to decieve you by telling you a truth they hope you won't understand.

Easy and over generalised version.  Chrome-moly = regular steel (vs stainless).  Chrome lined = chrome moly that is chrome plated in the bore and chamber.  Chrome plating = double the barrel life of chrome moly and double the corrosion resistance of stainless.
