How many does it take to cover one side of rifle length railed handguards.

I thought it was 2 11-ribs but I had a flashback to basic training and i think there was a shorter panel and an 11-rib.

Anybody know? Thanks.

Well now I at least remember why my issue M16A4 had a shorter panel.  This little plastic mounting piece (not sure what its for as we never used it) takes up part of the rail.

The top and bottom rails are two 11 rib panels. The side rails are shorter, and use an 11 rib and I believe a 7 rib to cover the whole rail.

I will probably be using a Midwest Industries 2 piece drop in.  So I would need 8 11-rib panels to cover the entire handguards?

NO!

you need one 11 rib and one 9 rib to cover a rifle length rail correctly.  two  11 rib panels will NOT fit, they are too long.  (Although, they are easy enough to cut down to fit).  If you are covering all of a MI rifle length RAS, you will need four 11 ribs and 4 nine ribs.

If you are putting them on a KAC M5 RAS you will need two 11 ribs and two 9 rib panel for the top and bottm.  You will need two 11 ribs and two 5 rib panels for the sides.

Trust me I know these panel sizes and have plenty if you need them.  Just let me know.  HTH

Thank you! I just got 8 11-ribs for a great price, so if I have to I can trade them off.  That's exactly the info I was looking for though.  What are you asking for some 9-ribs?

If you have a hacksaw and a bench grinder, or even a file and some sandpaper, you can make 9-rib panels that are just as good as the factory ones.

Being in Korea, you probably don't have a bench grinder though, let me guess, you live in the barracks?

I live in a BEQ, but yeah, I don't exactly have access to a bench grinder lol

I can't see the picture.  Can you host it on Imageshack or Photobucket?

Another thing to think about. If you want a different color (i.e. taupe) they only come in 11-rib. I looked all over the place and finally broke down and bought 5 from Lawmen's. Spent way to much but I got what I wanted in the end. I wanted shorter length guards so I am left to cut & trim to fit what I need.

Even if you don't have a bench grinder a hack-saw, file, some sand paper, and a careful hand will make them look nice.

There are some good deals out there on the auction sites, just wish I was needing more black ones!

+1

Buy large, trim to size, keep the scraps. The scraps them selves can be sanded smooth on the cut end, and used at a later date.
