How exactly do the KAC Panels lock in place on FF rails? I can see in pictures that there is a little metal strip at one end...Does this piece click into place, and if so, has anyone noticed it wearing the finish off the rails where it locks? Also, I'm wondering how solid they lock up...do they more around or rattle any? Thanks for any input! -Mike |
| they do lock into place in the bottom of the rail but they are pretty tight and dont really rattle any. Every once in a while you might get a lose one that does but not often. As for wear, or scratches, I have never noticed any. They are good stuff and all I use. |
Interesting on the rattle thing your getting. I have only used them on KAC rails and have only gotten a couple that have rattled over the years which takes not much more than pulling up a bit on the metal latch some with my pocket knife to tighten it and it's done. |
The issue with my KAC was a lot of fore and aft space on the rail slots. This made it pretty much impossible to get the clips to not rattle. I could reduce it by bending but it still rattled no matter what. The same rails fit super tight on my LWRC to the point they just barely have room to lock into place. |
| Personally, I think the KAC panels are the best but as DevL said, on some rail systems, they can be loose depending on the tolerance of the rail. The solution that I've found for this is to use the KAC rails in conjunction with ladder rails. I rarely use the KAC panels to fully cover the rails I have (since I have attachments like lights, VFG, etc.) so there is also a small portion of exposed rail left over. I cut the ladder rails so that they tightly butt up against the KAC panel and viola, no panel movement. |
