Which type of rail covers do you guys like? The solid type or the ladder type? Pros/Cons? I am almost done with a build-up except for a MIAD grip and rail covers. Please advise. |

Ladder type are lower-profile [won't make the handguard feel 'fat'], they are easier to cut to the exact size you want, but the downside is that they won't protect you from heat as well. The solid type tend to be more expensive, provide more protection from heat, but are typically more difficult to cut to size. I think the solid panels provide a better gripping surface/feel, but I personally only use one on my 6 o clock rail. The other areas have ladder types to cut down on the bulk. This way, I have a slim feel, the advantages of the solid panel where I need it most, and the ladder type to cover other areas my hand often contacts. I like Tango Down solid panels myself, but KAC are 'cooler', and Magpul's seem like they'd be nice and rubbery/grippy like the ladder style. It comes down to looks more than any concrete functional difference. Find the look you like, or just buy a variety and play 'dress up'. |
