| If you have an equal setup upper assembly (minus BCG), one was a Bushy and the other was CMMG. You could get the Bushy for 100$ less. But the CMMG had a 1/7 twist rate. Which would you go for? |
Well I want a 14.5" with a perm attached FH. Im on a college budget so money is tight. I'm eying a Bushy from PKfirearms for 390 with no BCG and a CMMG from BigDawgTac with BCG for 575$ Just trying to decide what the best for the $$$ is. |
Yeah, that's probably what I'm going to do. Since this will be my first AR and I'm on a tight budget it is probably the best bet for now. It has a Bushy barrel and a CMT receiver. Is CMT on par with Bushy or better? |
CMMG no question. You get a BCG & CH with the CMMG & more options preferred by most. Yes you will pay more for the CMMG but you get the BCG, CLing standard, F Marked FSB, etc. You're prolly gonna be over the price of the CMMG going with another upper that does not come complete with the BCG anyway. CMT BCG's are nicer than BM's IMO. At least the one I have & it's properly staked contrary to popular belief. I own CMMG & BM...my CMMG is my primary weapon for LE work. Not that there's anything wrong with my BM, but the completeness of the CMMG upper packages plus a lot of options is what I like. $525 complete + shipping. Push pins on your lower & shoot. I won't buy another complete upper other than CMMG from now on unless I just can't find them in stock anywhere. Then I would go with LMT (you still have to buy the BCG separately) & call it a day. First AR, budget or not, I would pick CMMG over BM any day. |

LMT ALL THE WAY Back in 1999 I was SO Scared when I bought a Bushmaster shorty I was a Colt Man But the little Bushy turn out to be OUTSTANDING ran 100% even made me buy another 20 hbar bushy wich ran 100% I sold the 20hbar and the Shorty upper and REPLACED the shorty upper with LMT M4 14.5 upper and bought a Complete LMT Defender 2000 M4 these LMT`s are mighty fine |
I'm not sure if your post makes me want a Bushy or an LMT more? haha |
I went with CMMG. I was able to option it out the way I wanted. No knock against Bushmaster. They are on my "approved" list. ZM |

You could get the BM and a Bravo Company BCG for less than the CMMG. The Bravo Company BCGs are very good quality, actually better than what BM puts out stock. That would be a good deal, unless you could source the CMMG somewhere else cheaper. Does the BM come with a charging handle? If not, you'll need to add that also. ETA: just checked the PK site. I'd go with the BM upper, select the 1/7 twist option, and get the forged CH. Then go to Bravo Co and order one of their BCGs. Depending on BUIS, you may need a taller front site post but you can get those from BM for $5. If PK offers them, pick one up just to be safe. |
Yes that was my plan. I was planning on using a Bravo BCG in whichever upper I bought. PK doesn't offer 1/7 twist in that barrel anymore, but I don't really care to shoot anything larger than a 62g anyway, so the 1/7 is not a deciding factor for me. I'm really just trying to get a few AR's built before the 08 elections. I have a severe case of BRD that is hindered by college tuition |
