I am familiar with the teardrop and the round forward assists. I recently saw another type of round forward assist that I am unfamiliar with. This one was round but had a much larger diameter head on it. I can't really describe it more thatn to say it was flat on the receiver side and overlapped about an 1/16 of an inch more around the edges than the standard round one. If I get a chance I will post a picture. Is any else familiar with this type? |
Actually, the very last M16A1s had the bigger round piece When the A2, with it's thicker rear ring, came out, Colt had to start milling a flat clearance cut into the inside of the big round piece, to clear the rear of the lower. That's when the current small round piece was designed. |
