This barrel is marked "FNMI MP CHROME BORE" and at first I was sure it was 1-12". After looking a little closer, I'm now not too sure. Just forward of the index pin, it is stamped with either a 6 or a 9. Anyone have any idea what the twist rate of this barrel actually is? It's 20" Gov't profile.

Heya hotolds442 ...

Take a -GI- cleaning rod with a new ( tight ) bore brush on it...screw it all up pretty snug.

Shove the bore brush in from the muzzle through the chamber area ... then pull the rod back until it is tight, and has engaged the rifling.

Mark the cleaning rod at the edge of the muzzle with something.. a sharpie maybe...just a " dot " will do...  then begin to pull the rod out allowing it to turn with the rifling... when the mark you made comes back to center ( one revolution )....
measure the distance from the muzzle to the dot you made.

After a few times, you will know exactly what the twist rate is.
ETA: If the bore is grungy... hit it with bore cleaner, then with a dry patch, dry off the brush, try again.

Hope this helps

If it's FNMI and an A2 profile then I'd be very surprised if it has anything other than a 1/7 twist.

If it were me I'd just throw it on an upper and head to the range with some 77gr Black Hills.  It'll either stabilize them or it won't, and that stabilization is what really matters, not the twist.

True, but it sells a heck of a lot quicker if it's 1-7", or 1-9" rather than 1-12". I've got three of these, and was trying to move one to build a new upper, but nobody wants the 1-12 twist, myself included. And I'd hate to off it to somebody advertised as a 1-12" twist if it's really not.

I have never done this with a brush but it works well for me with a tight patch

Unless it slipped three times in a row, it's 1-7". I couldn't get a brush to work properly, but as soon as I put in a double .22 patch, it came up the same every time. Thanks for the idea nhsport!
