I am thinking about getting a new upper in 6.8 SPC.  Either the Bushmaster or the DPMS.  My question is witch is better chrome/moly or a chrome lined barrel?hinking.gif

Chromoly barrels will be slightly more accurate, and chrome lined barrels will be much tougher ... or such is the conventional wisdom.

If you barrel is 16 inches or less, I would go chrome lined.

Chrome lined barrels can be VERY Accurate
Im not a GREAT SHOOTER but with a Rack Grade Bushmaster A1 20hbar and useing 69gr BTHP by Federal and a bushnell  scope
at 100 yards  prone I was getting ragged holes

Most Chrome lined barrels by LMT,Colt,Bushmaster are more accurate than the SHOOTER

Try the search function this has been covered about a million times.  Chrome lined barrels are chromemoly barrels with a hard chrome lining of the bore and chamber.

Why would barrel length have ANY impact on whether or not he should have a hard chrome lining in his bore and chamber?  The answer, of course, is it that it has none... just wondered where you were going with this one.  Are you under the misconception that longer barrels are somehow more accurate?

Devl,

I realize that longer barrels are not necessarily more accurate.  They simply increase the velocity of the bullet and sight radius, and I'm told they stabilize the bullet slightly more ...

I'm just saying that people generally choose short, chrome lined barrels for blasters where the majority of the shots are within 100 yards and accuract does not matter as much ... and SS non chrome lined barrels for long range work, where accuracy and gun steadyness matters and longer barrels will not hinder CQB movement.

Is this not true?
