I have an RRA National Match A2 with a 20" Wilson air guage barrel.  It's nice and it's new.  I also have an RRA LAR-15 A4 with a 20" chrome-moly  barrel.  That's new too.  What I really want is a National Match gun with the A4 flat top receiver.  That way I can have both a scope setup and a carry handle option (for LEG matches).  Should I take the barrel off the NM A2 and put it on the A4 or should I put the A4 upper on the NM A2?  The options are similar but is there an advantage in going one way or the other?  Or, should I sell off the NM A2 upper and buy a new NM A4 upper and sell the other A4?  I am thinking that I will sell off the resulting A2 with Chrome-moly barrel.   That said, is there any chance that the Chrome-moly barrel will shoot better than the Wilson barrel?

What twist rate are the barrels?

Both are 1 in 9.

The RR NM should be a 1 in 8" twist. Maybe the other one is a 1 in 9" twist.

If so, you *definately* want the faster 1 in 8" twist on your highpower rifle. Shooting the 80's at 600 is just about a must. The 9" twist will only allow you up to about a 75 grain bullet and this will kill your score at 600.

Yes you  are correct the NM barrel is 1 in 8" twist.  I stand corrected.

So I guess your saying I should off the CM 1 in 9 twist barrel.

For *highpower* *full distance* shooting, the 1 in 9" twist is just about worthless. It limits you *very* much as to what bullet weights you can use. This will kill your score.

Not all 1 in 9" twists will shoot the 77's. There is also a pretty good advantage to using the 80's at 600 as compared to the 77's.

A 1 in 9" twist will work just fine on reduced courses.
