Hi, I have a friend who asked me to help him put his ar from model 1 together but he needed a receiver. I have put several together using the double star lower and have not had any problems with any of them but the gun shop I had always went through closed so I gave the guy the info and he took to another gun shop but the double star was back ordered and offered the guy another one that cost a little more.

Well today the guy brought me the new one and it is some kinda of poly plastic stamped (Hesse Arms).

Does anyone know anything about good or bad. I'm assuming bad but don't really know?

Hesse (Now Vulcan) has a very bad reputation for poor quality. That said I personally have no experience with them only forum rumors but this attitude is pervasive throughout the field. You may find the piece is OK but I would not buy with so many other choices...a little late now so WTH...

This is my grand list of receivers.  Stay away from Hesse.  Buy anything from CMT, LMT or LAR.  MMS makes great receivers as well.  Good luck getting a GP receiver.  I'd avoid anything on the Olympic list and avoid Vulcan/Hesse.

LMT = LMT, Lauer, DS Arms, PWA, Eagle, Knights Armament, Barrett, Bushmaster (L prefix)
CMT = Stag, RRA, High Standard, Noveske, (new) Century, Global Tactical, CLE, S&W, MGI, Wilson Tactical, (some) Colt
LAR = LAR, Bushmaster, Ameetech, DPMS, CMMG, Double Star, Fulton
JVP = Double Star, LRB
MMS = Mega, GSE, Dalphon, POF, Alexander Arms,
Olympic = Olypmic, SGW, Tromix, Palmetto, Dalphon, Frankford, (old) Century
Sun Devil = Sun Devil forged billet receivers
Superior = Superior Arms
Grenadier Precision

I have never heard anything good about them. FWIW I heard they changed names because they had such a bad reputation.

i handled one of those plastic hesse/vulcan lowers and they seem to be crap and made out of recycled broken toys or bottles.

flashing everywhere and i dont think it would hold up to much use/abuse. if you plan on continuing with helping the guy i would advise him that the lower might not go together well and sometimes shit happens. be carful when tapping pins in place and if possible lube all parts and test fit before actually hammering.

but the best advise is to ask for a refund and wait for the cheaper doublestar.

For that kind of money he could have bought a Stag / CMT.

Wish him luck, then be sure he signs a waiver agreeing not to blame you when it goes TU.

iirc the price they were asking for the hesse lower you could get a bushmaster stripped lower straight from the manufactor.

Yeah, They are actually 2 guys with 2 of these lowers and they both want to try them out so I guess we will see first hand, &  experience with any issues that they have. I will post after trials
