| I'm trying to decide between these two stocks. I know the modstock's compartments are water proof and can carry more than the VLTOR but I haven't heard anything about if the VLTOR's are water proof too. But I don't like the fact that you have to remove the Modstock to access the compartments. Any opinions? |
I have and have standardized on the LMT SOPMOD Stock to date. I still have 2 VLTOR, they currently sit in my surplus pile. They are good stocks, but just don't fill the multi-role I need. You need to figure out your own needs, one size does not fit all applications for everyone. Try and find someone with each. |

The LMT sopmod requires you to remove the stock from the receiver extension to access the battery tubes. Is this correct? Anybody have pictures of the front end of stock to see how this works? I should have looked at this when i borrowed one from a friend to try out.  One other thing that is seldom mentioned when comparing these two stocks is the weight difference and its effect on the balance of a carbine. The SOPMOD is somewhat heavier then the vltor which i found moves the balance point rearward, allowing the carbine to handle better. This really becomes evident when shooting one handed and even more so during weak hand only practice. the non-slip rubber pad also helps keeping the gun shouldered. IMO of course. |
LS, Highlighted in red, like a Mk-82/BDU-50 for too long. I despise that description, period. The applications I refer to are semi-precision, CQB to 500M (RECCE/RECON for familar ARFCOM terms). Magpul also make very good stocks, again what are the requirements you are trying to acheive. One size does not fit all applications. |
