Hello.
I have an m16, and its barrel is stenciled with: "5.56 NATO 1/7", which means that it can fire the m855 (green) bullets.
What's the difference betw/ my barrel and the standard M16A1 barrel? can I see it visually by looking through it?

M16A1 barrel is 1 in 12 twist which means the rifling  ( lands and grooves ) will cause the projectile to rotate one complete revolution every 12 inches. 1 in 12 is not fast enough to stabilize heavier rounds effectively.

Okay. That I already know.
Now I have two questions:
1. Say I have a barrel, and I don't know if it's 1/7 or 1/12 twist, can I identify which one it is by looking through it?

2. If I fire the green-tip ammo which is fitted to the 1/7 twist on a standard 1/12 twist, what will happen?

thanx

1. Yes, look inside at the rfling, the 1/12 will twist rather slow compared to the 1/7

2. the heavier bullet will tumble

first of all thanx.

About the 2nd answer, it will tumble but it won't get stuck / explode in the barrel or something like that, right?

For #2,  the 1:12 twists don't spin the bullet enough to make it stable in flight.  It will leave the bore just fine, but may not shoot worth anything.
