I recently put on a GG&G modular tactical free-floating forearm on my AR and I thought I’d share my impression of the system. First up is installation. My AR has a permanently attached Vortex on the barrel so I needed a system that would go on without removing the FH. The GG&G meets that requirement. I originally had a regular front sight but decided I wanted to go with a flip up. This necessitated taking a dremel cut off wheel to the A-frame. After removing the regular handguards I cut off the front sight and then the delta ring, spring, and front handguard plate. After these were off I installed the two-piece gas block. The GG&G forearm is a two-piece unit. It lines up perfectly with the top of the receiver and bolts together on the barrel nut. There are four screws on the barrel nut and two on the front of the forearm. Once it’s tightened up its rock solid. I wouldn’t hesitate to put an optic on it. Then it’s just a matter of deciding which panels and rails you want to use and how you want to position them. I did buy an extra full-length rail for the bottom and two half rails for each side. The forearm comes with only one full-length rail, two half rails for the sides, one half rail for the bottom, one off set rail and four different panels. I opted to put full-length rails at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. But you can also put rails in between those spots. So far I’ve got about 1000 rounds through the gun with this forearm on. I haven’t noticed any movement. The light and KAC grip that I put on are rock solid. I’m really happy with it so far. My total investment with the extra rails is $250. I added some Magpul panels and ladders that I had lying around. The rail with 1 rail on bottom and one on the side. I can weigh the pieces and together tomorrow. its heavy, espically when you consider the Surefire is under 12oz. |

Wedge-- I just wanted to make sure you're talking about the GG&G FF handgaurd. According to the web site it does require barrel removal. Maybe Bigbore can chime in as well. Thanks, Steve |
It clamps to the barrel nut, like the TROY rails. You can dremmel the delta ring off if you dont want to remove the barrel. |

There are some advantages to the GG&G verses some of the others. It's billet alluminum not forged which gives it more strength. Many angles to mount stuff. Continuous top rail. Cost. The disadvantages is the weight, lots of screws (which you can remove when not in use however), not enough rails are included IMO. It's a nice FF rail for around $200
