I have a Colt M4 upper receiver that  bought a few years ago. It is marked with the "C" and "AF" and has the M4 above the gas tube hole and is T marked. I haven't used it because it has some strange lines made up of tiny dots on it. Looks like casting marks, but was under the impression they are forged. Is this correct? I have no way of getting the pics on here but have some. Anyone out there with these dots or maybe i should say little tiny holes probably less than a milimeter deep.I thought about sanding to see if they will come out but if it's a normal thing i won"t bother. I'd like to use it but not if the thing is going to blow up and i don't feel comfortable selling it either.
Thanks for the help

All Colt recievers, both upper and lower, are forgings.  I really can't visualize what the marks you are describing actually look like, but I have to assume that they are simply finishing imperfections.  They certainly wouldn't effect the safety of the piece.

Used a milsurp Colt A2 upper for several years that was covered with dings that looked like someone had taken a pin punch and hammer, and tapped dings all over the right rear of the piece; all around the forward assist hump. Worked just fine.
