I am looking for a replacement barrel for my Rock Island Armory XM15A1. It currently has a 11.5 in with 5.5 in permanently attached flashhider. I am desiring more accuracy yet still maintain the carbine length (16 inches).

I do not have to have the M4 cut (what does that really give you anyhow), but do want the government profile (light under the handguard). Currently, I see barrels that meet my specifications from Bushmaster, CMMG, and Model 1 Sales (carbine barrels with chrome lining and government profile, 1 in 9 or 1 in 7 in twist)).

In the end are all these barrels comparable or is one "brand" far superior from anything else (and really worth the extra $$$)?    Bushmaster has a long delivery time (at present), CMMG is more expensive that the others, and Model 1 is the unknown. I assume Model 1 Sales barrels (EM-4 model #) are made by Wison and hard chromed by someone else?

When it is all said and done (and I don't really care if a barrel is 4140 or 4050), are they all about the same for range shooting. If that is the case I'll go with the lowest prices barrel that meets my specifications (like our government does?).

Thanks on any of your thoughts  (or recommendation of other suppliers).

Oh yea, what I don't like about 16 in barrels is that after a flashhider they are 17 in plus and just don't look right to me. I understand the 14.5 with permanent attached FH is the way to go if I want an overall length of 16 in. Does anyone make a 15 in barrel that a standard A2 flashhider can be attached, keeping the length to near 16 inches overall?

Illegal unless it's pinned & soldered.

There are some 15.1" w/a pinned and soldered FH for sale in the EE.

Bushmaster or CMMG.  I'd avoid Model 1

I personally don't know of any company that makes a 15 inch barrel.  The only way I know to get a 15 is to buy a 16 and have it cut down to 15 and have the A2 pinned and welded

CMMG makes a barrel that is the minimum legal length with an A2 in place. It has to be put on permanently of course, but is on their web page. I'm not sure if its 15 or 15.5.

Thanks All.

I realize any barrel under 16 inches would have to have a permanently attached FH.

I looked at the CMMG websight again, but all I see are 14.5 with permanently attached FH/etc., or, 16 inch barrels. I do not see any 15 inch with permantely attached A2 FH.  Am I missing something or is it special order from them?

PS: Do you know who makes the  CMMG barrel?

Opps, I found it. It is a complete upper and the barrel is 14.7 inches.  In reality, the 14.5 with phantom is probably a better way to go for as I understand it, the phantom is really a better FH than the A2.

RRA had such a barrel.  Legal Transfers was selling them.
