How is the quality on DPMS? Looking for a .223 or .308 with a stainless barrell. I like the looks of the DPMS but do not know much about them. Any info will be really helpful.

Thanks

i owned 2 but sold them.  never had a problem with them, just needed money real bad, but make sure you get a forged lower, cause they make those investment cast ones too...

I have several, all have functioned perfectly.  Better fit and finish than my Bushy or RRA.

Other will be along shortly to bash, but take any "this mfg vs that mfg" with a grain of salt.

I had a Colt, nothing but trouble.  LMT lower, undersize magwell.  Lots of bitching lately about RRA and quality issues.  Bushy is known for canted FSBs.  The main knock on DPMS was breaking bolts, but that was quite a while back and issue was addressed.  Point is any major mfg will turn out a dud now and then, but for the most part, all build fine rifles.

Stick with Armalite, Bushy, Colt, DPMS, LMT, RRA, CMMG, and your chances are very good of getting a good rifle.

If you get a good deal, I would go for it...  JMHO..........

I just got my upper today from DPMS. The fit and finish are great. I have a 16" SS barrel that is fluted and the carbine FF rails. My lower is a BM. The other thing is that I had one minor problem with my order at DPMS, not the item but the order itself. They went out of their way to make it right. I'll buy from them again....Mike

I have a couple of factory-complete DPMS rifles and a few assorted lowers, uppers, etc.  No problems with any of the above & I've always gotten very good customer service (custom orders, etc.).

Thanks for all the replies guys! Really great info. Now I just have to decide what configuration I want! I might just go with .308 too as I have a lot of .223's already.

Thanks!

DPMS makes great products. Personally, I pay very little attention to the "Peanut Gallery" that bashes everything. Most of them don't even own the products their bashing.

I had the same questions about DPMS, then I found that Brownells sells and backs their products - and have been doing so for years.

Since DPMS switched to a new manufacturer for their receivers, a few years ago, their quality jumped way up. Their upper receivers have T numbers milled in and their lowers are great. The rest of their parts are on par as well.

So do several vendors...

I have had several DPMS lowers and uppers in the past - I am still running one now...no complaints...

This is good advice...I have dealt with all of the above and none have served me wrong...

Jeez, when will this subject ever die?  DPMS makes fine stuff.  I've got a DPMS 16" flat top carbine, non-chrome lined with many thousands of rounds through it.  Never hiccuped once.  Exceptionally accurate, BTW.  I can understand how this question keeps popping up, though.  Maybe there were problems in the distant past that get handed down to new guys or just take on a life of their own.

Then again, the opposite is equally true:  manufacturers who were once known for quality products in the past then rest on their laurels and then proceed to let their QA/QC slip.  Or the bean counters purposely cut corners.  No names, of course.

Okay, can we move on to a really new subject like, gee I dunno.....Vortex vs. Phantom, chrome vs stainless, Troy vs. Samson, blah, blah.

You forgot clip vs. magazine.

I like my DPMS stuff and would buy it again in a heartbeat.  They seem to have very nice quality product at pretty reasonable prices.

Actually, I think this is the longest I ever remember a DPMS thread going without one of the DPMS-bashers showing up to tell us how stupid we all are. (It usually happens within the first 3 or 4 posts.)

Of course, I'm probably tempting fate with this post...

Never had a complete rifle from them but had one of two lowers out of spec as well as one of two lower parts sets out of spec. I'm batting about .500 with them. Other miscellaneous parts over the years have been OK.
FWIW
YMMV
