I am in the process of putting together the above rifle. To make the 14.5" barrel legal, I am going to attach either a Vortex or a Phantom suppressor permanently on the barrel. Which of these two is more effective at minimizing flash? A guy at a gun show a while back told me that a Vortex will minimize flash in TOTAL DARKNESS to about the level of a match being struck! I find that piece of info very hard to believe. Which of the two is most effective? Thanks.

There will be no flash with the vortex.

I can see some flash, if I am shooting hot ammo. It's inside the tines though, and hard to see. Phantom works almost as well.

Quote from March 2005 SWAT magazine, page 32.

The birdcage flash hider, while flash suppression was efficient, was the least effective.  Coming in second was the Phantom, with only a small amount of flash visible.  The winner of the evaluation was the Vortex.

The Vortex is a little better than the Pahntom at flash suppression.  Both are more than adequate.

Wow, I guess that the guy at the gun show wasn't telling me a story after all! Thanks for the info, everybody.
