Can I buy and have a 14.5" barrel shipped directly to me to have a gunsmith attach an Advanced Armament flash hider legally, or do I have to be class III to purchase and possess?

I figured that I could just buy it and have it shipped and be fine.  As long as I do not put it on a barrel and then the rifle until they are permanently attached that I would be fine.

Which Advanced Armament flash hider are you planning on having permanetly attached to your 14.5" barrel? If you are planning on using the M4-2000 flash hider, you won't make the 16" legal length. Advanced Armament says this on their website (see link).

Yes you can.  I recently bought one from CMMG.  Just don't install it on your lower until you get it attached. HTH

Yeah, most places will ship a short upper to you with no hassle. Bushmaster does, but includes a statement advising you of what you can legally put it on--machinegun, SBR, or pistol.

Like "CAR-AR-M16" mentioned above, you need to make sure that whatever flash suppressor you use will exceed the 16" legal limit. It would suck terribly to have one permanently attached only to find out that it was 1/4" too short.

If this is true, then why will AA do this work for you, ship it to you, with out any warning, without any notice?

Bushmaster refused to sell me a 14.5 barrel a couple years ago.  Not mounted on an upper, just the barrel.  Maybe things have changed due to AR pistols being OK now?

Hmm I would ask them. States clearly in the FAQ you wont make 16. Perhaps since its your ass not theirs?  They could tell you.

I bought just the 14.5" barrel from Bushmaster back around October 2003 and didn't have to provide any kind of documentation whatsoever.

Interesting.  I think it was in 2001 or 02' when I tried to buy one.
