I am thinking of getting a RAS or RAS II. I will be mounting a Aimpoint and I was wondering how well it mounted on the RAS II. If I go with the RAS I will most likely mount the Aimpoint with a ARMS cantilever mount. Any body got any pics of a Aimpoint on a RAS II, and how do you like it.

Don't bother with the cantilever. Wasted money and space when you can put the scope anywhere you want. Only catch  is when you buy the mount you have to decide where you're going to mount it.

RAS II with a low Aimpoint mount like the ARMS #22M68 pictured above is a great, great set up. I have the same one and really like it quite a bit!

Thanks for the pics. Does the RAS II attach like the RAS? I do not really want a FF quad rail.

The RAS II is a FF quad rail.  It attaches "differently".

yep, the RASII is a FF system. It atteches to the upper via a clamp and two "claws" that lock inside the  delta ring. It locks up quite niclely. It's a solid setup. I have an Aimpoint  in a low Larue mount resting on my RASII.

So you're thinking of getting an RAS or RAS II but you don't want a "quad rail"? Please elaborate.

Who wouldn't want to free float their barrel?  Maybe he doesn't want better accuracy?

FF the barrel CAN increase your accuracy. There is no gaurantee of this. For example, FF the barrel of a gun with an average barrel and a mediocre to heavy trigger, with just iron sights or a non magnified optic, and use standard ammo, you will not likely see a difference in accuracy. If you are looking to improve youraccuracy, FF the barrel will be an excellent START, but by no means should you expect to see a significant, or even any increase in accuracy of that is all you are going to do.

I think he was saying he doesn't want the quad rail to FF.

Shooter:  The RAS II does free float, but that is in no way a detriment.  Why do you not want a FF system?  It is, by no means, necessary, but the RAS II free floats without modifying or disassembling the weapon.  It is just a nice bonus with the RAS II.

I do want a quad rail just not a FF one. For some reason I just do not like the way they look just hanging there buy the FSB but not attached to anything. When you attach the RAS II do you just take off the front retainer that holds the regualr hand guard in place?

No.  Nothing has to be removed or modified to mount the RAS II.

The only way you can tell the RASII is free-floated is by the  tiny gap between the rail and the front handgaurd retainer cap. When looking at it from the buissness end it looks like it's attached to the cap.

I was thinking about getting a RAS II and an Aimpoint Comp ML2 but have a question about co-witnessing it with the iron sights. I'm gonna use the YHM front flip up sight and some rear BUIS I just haven't figured out which one yet. Which Aimpoint mount gives the best co-witness with iron sights?

I use an ARMS 22M68, which works great.

My thoughts towards the RAS II are mixed.

I like how easy it attaches to the upper, and I like the hump, made especially for the Aimpoint.

But I don't like the weight, nor the width.

I think it's a good platform, if you're planning to go with a Surefire forward grip.  Otherwise, I'd go with the Larue or DD rails.

My rifles shot better than me, before I put FF rails on them.  I suspect this is the case for many (most?) shooters, especially when using an Aimpoint or other non-magnified optic, as you state.

The primary reason I've gone with the FF rails are:

1) Ease of installing accessories (lights, etc...)

2) No need to rezero once you install or remove something on the rail

3) The sling no longer torques the barrel when tension is applied.  I read somewhere here that a tensioned sling can change the POI about 6 MOA.  Haven't verified this myself, but it seems plausible.  Better safe than sorry.
