I have been pricing Bushy varmint 20", ss, free-float uppers and I find it hard to justify spending almost as much on the upper ($825 with internals) as I spent on the whole rifle.  Is there another manufacturer that makes an upper similar to this at a lower cost.  BTW,  I do not want to sacrifice quality, just to get a lower price.  If this is just the going rate then I will have to just suck it up and make the purchase.  Thanks in advance for the help.

Go Rock River Arms.  I have a RRA 24" varmint upper and I couldn't be any happier with it.  Couple hundred bones less than Bushmaster and I would say it is of equal quality.

Perfect!!!  Thank you.  That's about $250 cheaper than the Bushy.

i have a varmit kit from jt distributing that shoots sub moa all day. its cheaper.

very nice kit but it has a bull barrel which is gonna be way heavier than the bush varmit and the bush has the crhome lining i think on the non ss barrel

Bushy Varminter is essentially a bull barrel behind the gas block, and it is the ONLY non-SS barrel Bushmaster makes that is NOT chrome lined.

I'd go with the RRA version, if for no other reason, for the 1:8 twist.  And if the contour is THAT big of a deal to you, get it from ADCO (do that anyways, they're great to deal with, and the upper is cheaper than RRA's list... only $500!) and have it contoured from the FSB forward for another $60!!!

I just put an "upper" on that I got from M-1.  It's a 16" stainless fluted with a 223 chamber.  I haven't done a lot of load work-up yet, but with my favorite load from my other gun (24.3 gr. of IMR4895 and a 68 gr. Hornady match bullet, and bench rest primers )  it shoots right at 3/4 inch for 6-10 shots,.    I believe that with a little load work, I can get a little less from it.  I am looking for consistant 1/2 or less.  Much of the accurace is in the ammo.  Take great care with brass preperation if you want  "one-holers".
