Could you comment on which type of bench rest I should get for my ar 15, 20" bbl . My two choices are a bipod, or a portable front and rear rest, also can these be used with this rifle. I have a standared stock and forend. Which one performs better under normal bench rest shooting.  Thank You

I've had better results with a front and rear soft rest.

I use a Sinclair front rest and a bunny ear rear bag.  The front rest has an adjustable "universal" bag on it that adjusts for different widths.  The top is windage adjustable.  It's a pretty serious rest, more for bench rest kind of shooting.

Caldwell makes one called "the rock" that's about $70 or so minus the actual bag...it's okay, will get the job done.  You'll need a rear bag with that seup too.

There are different sizes of leather bags for the front...I'd suggest a medium, iirc that works the best for AR type round forarms.

I shoot almost exclusively from the bench, so I went ahead and ponied up the $325 or so for the Sinclair.  I've never regretted it.  If you get something like this, you can use it with pretty much any rifle you ever want.

If this is too big and heavy, then go with the Caldwell, especially if you are looking for "portable"...at about 12 lbs, I don't know how portable the Sinclair is lol

I have used Harris bipods extensively and with great success.  Also check out "Monopod" made by Accu-Shot, kinda silly to most but it attaches to the REAR sling stud.  Using both! you can literally set it up like a freakin' machine rest'

I saw a front and rear sandbag rest set at Wal-Mart for maybe $15.  I've been using a medicine ball lately LOL.
