I got a new Bushmaster 14.5" HBAR A3 upper and was sighting it in the other day with a Colt carry handle A2 sight assembly.  I was using the Santose method at 50 yards.  My shot group was several inches high at first about 12" at least.  I kept turning the front sight to bring it down and was able to bring the group down quite a bit, but still not zeroed.  I ran out of room on the front sight post, if I turn much more it will come unthreaded from the barrel.  I checked to make sure the rear sight aperature was all the way down according to the instructions using this method, and it was.  This does not seem right and it is the first time it has happened to me.

The other odd thing about this was I was getting short strokes, appeared to be a gas problem.  I moved the bolt assembly to another upper and had no problems, so I am left with the conclusion I have a barrel, upper problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Colt carry handles don't work with Bushmaster rifles (they have information on this in their catalog).

Bushie does list a higher than normal front sight post, part no. 9349056-M that may help w/the problem.

The Colt carry handle is taller, designed for use with Colt F-stamped front sight bases, not standard-height FSBs.
