I was doing a little cleaning on my RRA Middy today, and while doing so was noticing the interesting threaded holes all over my SIR 58, some with a liner some not. There are 6 on the lower portion of the upper rail, 7 along the top portion of the upper rail where it covers the receiver, 2 on the boltcatch side of the upper rail ( the portion that screws on to secure it), 1 on the forward portion of the lower handguard, and 6 on the rearward portion of the lower handguard. There is also a different type of threaded hole on either side of the SIR above the barrel nut and at the same height as the gas tube approx where the gas tube enters the upper. What are the purpose/use of these holes? I've noticed them before but really got to thinking about them today. Hoping you guys can ease me curiosity! -Hershey |

I think the holes are threaded for standard camera adaptors (like a tripod). That is at least the reason for the threaded holes on the KAC RAS. (really I think very few people use the feature). I know that doesn't explain threaded holes in the top of the SIR or RAS. (the ones on the SIR might accomidate the ARMS track rings? [the ones that mount in the square tracked mounts]) |
