Guys, at some time in the recent past, I swear I remember seeing a standard looking lower that was made of some sort of non metalic composite, but I can't seem to find any referance to it on the web. It is (was) not the Cav Arms model, it looked just like a regular aluminum lower, but was made of some space age light weight "stuff". I could have cared less at the time, but now want one for a project, any leads would be appreciated greatly, thanks! Chris |

Carbon aramid composite, there's also some sort of nylon injected composite as well. Hesse Arms was putting their name on them, and Bushmaster has a synthetic lower & upper receiver rifle, very lightweight and I believe Bushy's synthetic started out as an Olympic Arms or some other manufacturer? I'd be weary of the wear and tear on the pin holes "wearing" out on these synthetics, probably wouldn't happen though as I haven't heard of this happening with Calvary Arms lowers. |

So far as I know, only Vulcan Arms (formerly Hesse) makes one you can buy as just a receiver. Bushmaster makes the Carbon 15, but for now, you can't buy stand alone receivers. You'll have to go with Vulcan. Just to warn you, Vulcan/Hesse doesn't have a good reputation. The only things they produce that don't have a half bad reputation are their AK receivers and the Kevlar lowers/uppers. I've been tempted to build on one myself. |

| M understanding from the Industry Forums is that Bushmaster is only offering their synthetic lower to Law Enforcement at this time and has not plans on selling these to the public. I would be interested in experimenting with an Aramid lower if I could obtain one locally. I understand Vulcan subcontracts these out and the quality is better. Most of their stuff is junk, but I already have a "few" AR's, so I would'nt mind experimenting. |

Hell I may just give this a shot its so cheap. If it wont work I can just get a regular upper or lower and only be out a tiny bit of cash. Also someone on this forum built a rifle from an aramid Hesse receiver and has had no problems. In fact I have not heard a single complaint about the aramid receivers. Can anyone point me out to a complaint somewhere? |
