Who's got experience with it? How does the thickness of the Bushy barrel compare with the Colt Lightweight barrel (ya think it'll stand up to getting knocked around a lot?)? How about the Stubbystock - anyone use it and/or put spacers/stock extensions on it?

Thanks in advance!

It'll stand up to getting knocked around like any AR [;)] Don't care for the stubby stock much. If I have to carry an AR for an extended period, this is the one to grab.

I have both a Colt lightweight A2 upper and a Bushmaster Superlight A3 upper. AFAIK they are exactly the same diameter. Of course, I could get off my ass and go measure them [:D], but I'm comfortable enough right where I am (and the History Channel is doing a "Bullets" episode of Modern Marvels). I'm also comfortable saying that they are the same diameter. Or at least close enough for government work. I have found that they are comperable in terms of accuracy. They should also be equals in durability. Barring a serious single purpose tackdriver, I'd go with a LW bbl. But that's just me. FWIW, I'm using the BM SL upper on my primary rifle. The Colt upper is waiting to get reunited with it's factory lower after the Krime Bill dies. I have also been able to beat the every living crap out of more than a few taxpayer supplied LW bbl'd M16A1's. The only problem I found was trying to qualify after using my rifle (not a rubber duck) for a weekend on a bayonet course. The rifle still functioned perfectly, though the zero was badly off. I'm sold on LW bbl's.

I'm like Corey. I have a Colt Sporter LW which I truly enjoy(the Colt thang). Also have the Bushmaster Superlites. Got them changed over to the A2 stock from the stubbies(they were far too short). Didn't check into spacers, but I bet you could do it easily.

Love the Bushy superlight barrel. I have found the stubby needs some sort of spacer to be usable. If you want to use a single point sling the KAC spacer (recommended by DocGKR) works very well. I tried with the cheaper DPMS spacer - it works, but rattles more and I dislike the stock screw they use. Another option is the adjustable buttplate. It helps balance out the rifle - and in its shortest position makes the rifle just a hair longer than using the spacers.

I like the BM SLW barrel, though it does heat up quickly, after two rapid mag dumps I transition to pistol for a while and let it cool.

AK_Mike: Is that an ACOG? Never seen a mount like that before. Mind if I ask what it is? Thanks, Corey

There are two types of compact ACOGs. One is the standard integrated base which fits into the carry handle which you are used to seeing. This is a special ring version. That is why it looks so different from what you are used to. Thanks for the info. You're right, it does look different!

Just as DevL said. I got the special ring version because I thought I may mount it on other rifles, like say, a Mini-14. It looks like it is actually going to find a home on my fathers bolt action .270 rifle cause he can't stand regular scopes and fell in love with my compact ACOG. Using the medium mount, it will be at the perfect heighth, though it most certainly look unusual...

My Bushmaster Superlight Brl is just a touch bigger around than my Colt MT LW Brl.
