I did a search before asking this and of the previous review given, only one person stated that the parts they sold are not mil-spec. On the advice of mine, my friend bought thier preban m4 with flat-top kit to put on a EA lower recievers that I had sold him. M1 does not include a rear sight for their flat top kits. We went to a gunshow and bought a rear sight from SOG Armory. The sight is adjustable for windage and elevation with made it the coice to buy. Now the problem. At the range we quickly realized that the rifle was shooting high. Even with the rear sight depressed all the way and the front post almost completely unscrewed from the front sight base it still shoots about 2 feet high at 100 yards. To check the rifle, I installed my scope from my flat-top varminter and quicky got the rifle on target. I did this thinking that it would eliminate a problem with the upper assembly. The next day I called SOG Armory thinking that maybe the sight was defective or had been given the wrong one. The guy asks me where I got the rifle from and upon hearing it was a kit gun from Model 1 Sales he starts spouting that they sell non-spec kits and he would have to measure this rifle to one he knew was mil-spec and that he was sure it was the rifle and that no way is he gonna give a refund ect..ect. Since he doesnt operate a storefront I have to catch up to him at the gunshow this weekend. So I guess the question is does anyone know for sure if their uppers are mill-spec or has anyone have a opinion on SOG Armory? |

My first AR was an armalite. While I liked the super loud brake at the end that scared everone at the range, I had to sell it in a time of need. To make a long story short, my current AR is a Model 1 kit gun that is built on a bushy lower. The serious question is this; How many AR manufacturers are actually gov contractors? NONE. Wait, Colt does build the M4's, but who else builds contract parts for the military. FN-Herstal USA is the current supplier. No they don't even manufacture their own stuff. It is all sub-contracted to other machine shops. The only way to build a perfect AR is to hand select all of the parts yourself. With factory built rifles you can still encounter problems, the difference is you have a warranty. You can send the weapon off if you are dissatisfied. My AR will shoot 1/2 moa. Mind you I have tweaked it with the help of a close friend who is an Army armorer. He will tell you that Model 1 is just as good as anyone else. I think that the main difference between the kit gun companies is their customer service. If you keep in mind the fact that you are building it yourself, you may need to make a few adjustments. Oh, by the way, my model 1 gun shoots better than my Armalite did, and also, if you check the upper markings as to manufacturer, the upper is supposedly a bushmaster. Good luck. |
