I am rebarreling my AR. What is the best way to coat a stainless steel barrel to look original.
Who can preform the process? And how well does it hold up? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
James

We did exactly this... had a stainless barreled Armalite AR10.  Sent the whole upper to Olympic Arms to be "black oxided".  They did the disassembly and reassembly.

The barrel came back a perfect match to the upper receiver, a flat black.

I have other Oly SS barrels that were factory "black oxided" and the finish is durable.

Another option is to have it black tefloned by Birdsong Associates or Lauer's finish (actually a baked on paint).

Personally, I would email Tom at Olympic, and arrange to send your whole upper to him for their black oxide.

Another great finish is KG Gunkote. It an awesome finish with a variety colors and textures to choose. It's excellent for extreme hightemp and it self lubricats. Check out the website:http://www.kgcoatings.com/gun-kote/

Black oxide is OK, but wears down to easy.
