| O.K., I've seen the posts that the Phantom should be indexed with the slots at the 2,4,7, and 10 O'clock positions for the best flash suppression. However, I've also read that "over tightening" the flash suppressor will "stretch" the barrel and effect accuracy. Question is...how on earth does this happen? I mean, how would one know it is over tightened, and is it possible to do by wrench and hand? |

Mine is indexed so that the slots are at 1:30, 4:30, 7:30, and 10:30, to that there is no opening directly up or down. Which should keep any flash, gas from upsetting your sight picture, or kicking up dust directly below the rifle. The flash suppressor has "flat spots" for a wrench. Those are horizontal in the postion that I'm describing. |

[;)] The only reason to index a flash supressor is to try to minimize a dust signature if you're firing close to the ground. The flash supression isn't influenced by the slot's position whatsoever. The M16A2 compensator needs to be indexed with the middle slot straight up to put the closed section on the bottom. -- Chuck |

Mickey223, On tightening your F.S. you should look at the lock washer and when it almost meets at the cut(lock), that is when you stop. Doing this will most likely require your armourers wrench or the like. As for overtightening ruining your barrel or streaching the barrel, I think it would be quite rare. At most you would be stripping your threading off the barrel end, or inside of the F.S. in which case you are F#cked. On the positioning of the slots of it, listen to the most commonly told advice or opinion here. That is my opinion[:D] |
