I have a Colt HBAR Match. Big and heavy. I want to get another (maybe several) uppers for different purposes/diferent calibers. If I install a shortie stock (I don't know which one yet) - which I want to do riding around the ranch as a truck gun - I presume that I have to have a shorty buffer tube? Is it legal on a postban to change that? I am being confused by some other stock related threads and that had never occured to me before. Thanks Mark |

Yes, Mark, shorty stocks are legal as long as the mininum overall length of the rifle is not cut into. And with a shorter buffer tube, you will need the CAR spring and buffer, as the long one will guarantee you short-stroking issues. Only an adjustable (unpinned) stock is an Evil, tyrant-frightening feature, like lugs and flash supressors... All Hail the SUNSET!! I'll order 100 bayonets for my friends... Regards, FastVFR800 |
| You can't put a collapsing or telescoping on a post ban. You could have a collapsible stock permanently fixed into the short position or you could buy the little shorty buttstock everyone is selling now, to go on a post-ban. I think ACE sells a short boom tube buttstock as well. |
| I have a fixed DPMS stock that appears to have been epoxied on, and then two blind pins were inserted through the stock and into the rail of the buffer tube. Seems pretty much fixed to me, but it has been mentioned that the BATF doesn't agree. But if it's an aluminum stock, you could just weld it to the tube. |
