| Anyone have trouble installing this stock over the last inch or so (closest to the receiver) of the buffer tube? Any solutions? |
| I got mine yesterday and yes it was a smidge tight I thought. Do lube the buffer tube prior to installation and also it will probably take a good wack with the heal of your hand to seat the stock fully. BTW mine was installed on a RRA buffer tube so it appears your mileage may vary. By the way I ordered mine from DSA and asked for the recoil pad also and got it and the stock all for $89.95 if anybody is interested, normally the pad is $14 extra. HTH |

underdog, Your eyesight's not off, I did manage to put paracord on my Ace stock. When I got the stock, I just wasn't sure if I liked the foam thing. I had been messing around with the 550 cord and decided to give it a try. I rented a movie and by the end of it I had my stock installed. The cord seems to hold up really well. At first it didn't stay put and it wanted to twist on the buffer tube, but I used the hair spray recommendation from Ace and that took care of it. I used the method of running a loop along the length of the buffer tube and then wrapped my way down the tube to the loop which got pulled tight to hold the loose end. I worked my way from the butt plate to the grip. When getting close to the front of the stock it got tight, but wasn't impossible. When I was finished, I turned the side of the wrap with the loop running underneath to the bottom side of the buffer tube. (This kept the charging handle from hanging up.) Check out this link for an example of what I did. I'm pretty happy with it. http://www.therangerdigest.com/Tips___Tricks/PARA-CORD_KNIFE_HANDLE/body_para-cord_knife_handle.html |

Picture taping one end of the starting piece of paracord to the buttstock and then running the length of it to the receiver, making a loop, and then back to the buttstock. Start the actual wrap at the buttstock and work your way to the receiver. When you get as much of the cord wrapped as you can, you cut it off and pass the loose end through the loop. You then pull the starting piece that was taped to the buttstock which will constrict the loop and hold the other loose end in place. Once tight, you cut both ends with about 1/4 to 1/2 inch left sticking out. When I started, I ran that loop down the top of the buffer tube, but when done I turned it down underneath. (The charging handle won't pull out if you don't.) Use a lighter to melt the ends of the cord. I hope that helps. It's kind of hard to describe until you try. Something else that will take a little planning is making sure you use enough paracord. I didn't keep track of that length -- sorry. |

I'd like to thank everyone for the input. The last inch or so of my Colt buffer tube was stepped slightly-there was no way the stock was going on. I replaced the tube with one from Bushmaster and the stock went right on. It just needed a couple good whacks to seat against the receiver. I also bought the stock from DSA, and was told it was backordered about 2 wks. However, it was only 3 or 4 days later that they told me it was on it's way to me. |

I ordered an ACE stock (should be here Monday [:D] and today i picked up a roll of black para-cord... I guess I'm not the first to think of wrapping the stock. I was thinking of wrapping it the way you have it or doing it this way. http://groups.msn.com/TheMarylandAR15ShootersSite/wrapyourhandguardswithparacord.msnw I have enough para-cord so maybe I'll try both ways. |
