| When we refer to the oval M4 handguards, is that the same thing as the "fat" handguards? Someone recently told me that they are two different things but that didn't sound right. |

Originally Posted By mcantu: iirc, oval are the standard single heat shield handguards, while the "fat" ones are the ones that came out with the socom barrel and had double heat shields I had always referred to the single heat shield HG (like the ones used on the XM177E2/CAR-15) as "round" as they are more round than the double heat shield HG that are notably taller than they are wide. And by the way, the M4 always had the double heat shield, the SOCOM barrel did not start showing up until the PIP around 2010-2014 . . . |
