Brand new Colt Socom 14.5 Barrel. Is this acceptable? (Page 3 of 3)

Order another barrel and send back the worst one. If it didn't have any scratches or dings I would suspect it was a fake Colt part.  |

Every example that I have seen has been factory P/W. |

I'm about 90% sure that Specialized Armament Warehouse (SAW) used to list a SOCOM SBR and a government profile M4 SBR on their website, but they don't show up now. I think I've been looking at their website for 20 years now, so it's getting hazy (and their website design hasn't changed in all that time!). It could have been just a standard M4, but they've always been the site for "pure" Colt products (not cheap). |

Factory 14.5 sbr GOVT profile carbines are readily available over here. I haven’t seen a 6920 in years… only 6921. 14.5” Socom unpinned is available as spare barrel.. and if I’m not mistaken it was available as CK complete upper (among others like 6921 and 6940) but I could be wrong in the last one. |

Yeah, they are widely available on sites like Brownells and midwayusa. I typically get mine off midwayusa. It comes with just the barrel nut and front sight post. I kind of wish they didn't pinned the front sight all the way in like Daniel Defense does that way you can take out the barrel nut to your own and install the gas tube without any sort of bending. As I mentioned in my earlier response, I think the OP could return it, but there will probably be dings and scratches on the new one. I think the OP is upset that it has a nick on the ring. I also don't know how the OP got the barrel. Usually Colt will ship the barrel with a carboard straw in it, inside a vape shielded bag and inside a cardboard taped box. Whenever I ordered it from midwayusa, it would come to me this way and I would be the first one to open it since it has been sealed inside the bag and put into a cardboard box. If the OP simply got a barrel without all that, I would say he should return it as it is a opened barrel or a take off barrel as some others mentioned. If it is a take off barrel, I don't think the OP has much to complain about as it could have been damaged at any point like when they took it off or just generally handling it and moving it around. But I think if he just got the barrel and it says it is new and it is not inside the mentioned box, he should return it as it is not a new barrel or a customer return of some sort. |

It's possible to receive a barrel that fired few hundred rounds. Pictures of 2 barrels that I purchased as brand new. Easy to to tell which one was never fired. Both barrels on the outside had perfect finish. Attached File Attached File |

| Sadly this IS typical for Colt. I have bought several SOCOM barrels in the past 10-15 years, all of which were brand new. Each one looked like the FSB was put on super dry. You could see marks along the barrel from it being slid on dry. On the other hand, my LMT uppers were spotless. It is a Colt thing I guess. You just have to accept it or go with a different manufacturer. |

I bought a new SOCOM several years back. Couldn’t zero the irons. Placed an Acog on it. Had to adjust the chevron all the way over to get it on paper. I contacted Colt. They sent me the return papers. Sent it back . Received a new upper. The barrel was bent. It happens. They made it right. Hope you didn’t get my old bent barrel.
